Wild Thang Branding Geek don’t forget to post-it !

We simply love bringing you random facts & information about products we sell & I would be very surprised if you had not used a post-it note at some point as a reminder to do list or simply to mark something in a page with some comments. We loved this extreme post-it note image but they may have gone a little too far with those reminders.

 Did you know The original postit notes only ended up being yellow by chance & sometimes an innovative product only gets to market through a bit of luck, coincidence & persistence. In 1968, a scientist at 3M in the United States, Dr. Spencer Silver, was attempting to develop a super-strong adhesive. Instead he accidentally created a "low-tack", reusable, pressure-sensitive adhesive, Silver promoted his "solution without a problem" within 3M both informally and through seminars but failed to gain acceptance. In 1974 a colleague who had attended one of his seminars, Art Fry, came up with the idea of using the adhesive to anchor his bookmark in his hymnbook. The original notes yellow colour was chosen by accident, as the lab next-door to the Post-it team had only yellow scrap paper to use the rest as they say is history.

This giant-size cycle jersey was created by Team Sky for the start of the 2014 Tour De France. The unveiling of the whopping  25m x 25m jersey took place in Millennium Square in Leeds city centre for the start of that years race. Check out the world's largest biggest poster which was created for the movie release of Indian movie epic Baahubali. The sizeable movie poster was a whopping 4,793.65 m² (51,598.21 ft²) - that's the size of 18 tennis courts! What a fantastic attention grabbing stunt gaining entry into the famous Guinness Book of Records & we are sure this would have created endless PR publicity & social media interaction. Do you want to feel like Rocky? Then simply wear a hoody! Did you know hoodies, hooded tops & hooded sweatshirts have been around a lot longer than you think, documented as part of men's and women's wear for centuries. The word "hood" is said to come from the Anglo-Saxon word "hōd", the garment's style and form can be traced back to Medieval Europe when the normal clothing for monks included a hood called a cowl attached to a tunic or robes and a chaperon or hooded cape was very commonly worn by any outdoor workers. Its appearance was known in England at least as early as the 12th century, possibly an import with the Norman conquest of England. The modern day hooded sweatshirt or hoodie was born of modest origins. Champion Products, which began as the Knickerbocker Knitting Company in 1919, claims to have made the first hooded sweatshirt. Originally a sweater mill, Champion began making sweatshirts in the early 1930's once it developed methods to sew thicker underwear material. They are now a mainstay of street, sports, varsity, fashion & casual uniforms. In my opinion, the iconic use of a hoodie in the Rocky film may well have been the catalyst for the huge modern day popularity. At Wild Thang we love all things large, big, massive related to products we sell & with many Pride festivals taking place across the UK and the world Wild Thang love nothing more than seeing human beings celebrating diversity, equality, love & life together ! So this week we feature the worlds biggest pride flag which was revealed in Key West in Florida. It was back in 2003 when Key West unveiled the world’s largest Pride flag, which measured 1.25 miles. It ran the length of Duval Street – 14 blocks to be precise. Duval Street is where most of the island’s gay venues are situated. The flag was created by designer Gilbert Baker who spent three months in Key West assembling the flag. It weighed a massive 3 tons and took about 17600 linear yards of fabric. It took 2000 volunteers to raise the flag in 2003. Where is the world’s biggest Pride flag now? The flag has, since 2003, had sections displayed at global events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, and Australia’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. They have been shown internationally in Canada, Sweden, Norway, Germany, England and Australia and domestically in cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Atlanta. Summer is in full swing and with comparisons being made to the heatwave summer of 1976 sunglasses are an essential piece of kit for protecting Ole Blue Eyes. Not only do they look cool but they also have some interesting origins. Did you know In prehistoric and historic time, Inuit peoples wore flattened walrus ivory "glasses," looking through narrow slits to block harmful reflected rays of the sun. In the early 1920s, the use of sunglasses started to become more widespread, especially among stars of movies. It is commonly believed that this was to avoid recognition by fans, but an alternative reason sometimes given is that they often had red eyes from the powerful arc lamps that were needed due to the extremely slow speed film stocks used. The stereotype persisted long after improvements in film quality and the introduction of ultraviolet filters had eliminated this problem.

Inexpensive mass-produced sunglasses made from celluloid were first produced by Sam Foster in 1929. Foster found a ready market on the beaches of Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he began selling sunglasses under the name Foster Grant from a Woolworth on the Boardwalk. By 1938 Life magazine wrote of how sunglasses were a "new fad for wear on city streets ... a favourite affectation of thousands of women all over the U.S." It stated that 20 million sunglasses were sold in the United States in 1937.

Today they are as much about the eye protection as looking cool, but from a marketing perspective sunglasses can really bring a campaign to life and if the sun shines your branded sunnies can become that walking talking advert.
